The book is as billed: a reference to allow those affected by the weather to understand it. The explanations are both sound and dirt-simple. However, something strange happened in the Kindle conversion process. The book is shot through with grammatical and typographical errors. There are even strikethroughs over some of the text. If you know enough about the subject matter, you can work through the errors ('partial' instead of 'parcel', 'roll' instead of 'role'). The most maddening omission is that of the diagrams and photos. The Kindle is quite capable of displaying graphics at the level required to convey the meaning of the captions. The charts and photos should have been included. All told, it appears as if an intermediate draft of the Kindle conversion was offered for sale rather than a finished book. Which is unfortunate. This could have been an invaluable tool to train weather spotters.Product details

While I applaud the author for his endeavor to share his knowledge and experiences, a large part of the information provided is outdated or incorrect. The lack of an editor to review the writing style and spelling is quickly evident and often makes reading the material very difficult. On the plus side, the Glossary of Meteorological Terms is thorough and makes an excellent reference.
Long winded, but authoritative. Good book but not for those who want quick facts and explanations about tornadoes. Recommend trying another title.
An excellent reference for spotters and emergency managers and not a lot of math which is great for the layman. The version is missing the pics and illustrations which really detracts from the content of this type of book. If you are interested in the title, get the print version don't waste your time trying to glean info from the download.
